Managing Editor

Part-Time Position

Job Description

Our founder and publisher, who has been at the helm of running the journal, which is a publication of The Word Project, is looking for someone to be a part of the team to take the journal and its programs to the next level.

 

This is a paid, remote, part-time position, averaging 10-15 hrs per week.

Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Plan and execute operations including

    • communications (email/MailChimp)

    • subscribers and contributors’ lists

    • website updates

  • Control publication schedules (for volunteer staff and contributors)

  • Coordinate publications’ release and sales

  • Responding to emails. 

Editorial

  • Collaborate with editors to determine issues’ content and theme

  • Contact contributors, via Submittable, of acceptances and declines based on editors’ selections

  • Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy for each quarter

  • Finalize issues for compliance with policies, style and tone

  • Proof and post quarterly blog (written by blog editor)

Creative/Communication

  • Assist the Publisher in strategic planning and growth of the publication and make suggestions to allow for growth and greater impact

  • Manage/oversee social media and other promotional efforts to promote contributors and increase sales, memberships, and interactions

  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and hosting monthly virtual #artandhealing popups

Requirements

  • Experience working with a diverse team and audience

  • Successful managerial experience and/or as an editor or relevant role

  • Exceptional ability in copywriting and editing

  • Working knowledge of online platforms like LucidPress and Submittable

  • Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and people abilities

  • Reliability and efficiency

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent customer service and timely responsiveness

  • Keep pertinent information confidential 

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little oversight

  • Participation in meetings including annual retreat (virtual option)

  • Passion for literature, creativity, and the connection with art and healing

  • Commit to at least a one year cycle (Jan-Dec 2022)

Ideal as well but not required

  • MFA in creative writing or BA in journalism, or relevant field

  • Marketing and social media management

  • Strong sales knowledge and experience

Asst. Creative Nonfiction Editor

Volunteer (appx 15 hrs/quarter) 

Job Description

 

 

We are currently looking for someone who is passionate about literary arts as a modality to increase wellbeing and healing, who has publishing experience but as a writer and/or editor to join our team as the Assistant Creative Nonfiction Editor.

 

This is a volunteer, remote position which requires approximately 20 hours per quarter.

Responsibilities

Works with Creative Nonfiction Editor to

 

  • Closely read, review, edit and select entries 

  • Accurately input selected essays into journal platform

  • Support and help promote the journal though your own networks and social media

Requirements

  • Experience working with a diverse team and audience

  • Published writer

  • Successful in copywriting and editing

  • Working knowledge of online platforms like LucidPress and Submittable

  • Outstanding communication (verbal and written) and people abilities

  • Reliability and efficiency

  • Attention to detail

  • Keep pertinent information confidential 

  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with little oversight
