Red welts
bloom over my body
in slow succession
after weeks of sickness.
I scramble from closed door
to closed door all day on the phone
until control shudders away
in a pathetic pile of limbs on the floor.
Your hand swirls a small circle
on my back from which love
comes curling out the hard shell of me
to feel again through the red
the rich earth in its tendrils.
