fall/winter 2024

FIRST LOOK

A NOTE FROM OUR PUBLISHING EDITOR, JACINTA V. WHITE

It's the morning after the U.S. Presidential Elections. This issue was originally planned for mid-November, but last night, needing something to steady me, I poured myself into finalizing these pages, woven with the voices of 16 poets and writers (in this iteration). Somehow, it felt right to share this with you now—and perhaps you need this, too.

As I revisited each piece here, I felt a gentle peace and quiet joy, mingled with a

hint of sadness—because there’s something truly healing in words, in the stories we tell and share. Our freedom to express, to connect deeply and honestly, is precious beyond measure. It’s what keeps us grounded and united, even in moments of uncertainty.

Wherever you are, my hope is that this collection lifts you a little higher, brings you comfort, and inspires you to reflect on how you “compose” and “keep composure,” and the times you may not. This is the first half of our fall/winter issue, with the second half of another 16 amazing poets and writers arriving in December—a moment to pause and breathe as the season deepens.

May you find peace, rest, and a renewed sense of hope as we step into times of change. I wish you goodness, safety, and the feeling of being seen and understood. May the words within these pages be a light, a witness to what matters most.
